A brief snapshot about this exciting opportunity: 

CatholicCare Victoria has entered a Service Level Agreement with Foundation House Victoria for the delivery of torture and trauma counselling and advocacy related services across the Mallee region for people with a refugee background and asylum seekers.

The Trauma and Torture service will be incorporated into CatholicCare’s Counselling and Relationship Services stream, where the aim is to ensure the wellbeing of all family members by minimizing the impact of stress, trauma, change and isolation. The aim is for all clients who engage with the program to gain a greater understanding of their stressors and learn self-management strategies. 

The Coordinator, Family Support is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day functions of Family Support Program and providing support and supervision to practitioners to ensure families engaging with our program achieve their goals.

Specifically, the position is responsible for:

  • Conducting comprehensive psycho-social assessments with adults and their families to formulate case plans within the Integrated Trauma Recovery Service Model.
  • Completing risk assessments to ensure priority and immediate interventions are taken.
  • Providing high quality short, medium and long-term counselling interventions with adults and their families utilising a range of therapeutic approaches to deliver agreed client and program outcomes.

If you have the below skills & experience – we would love to hear from you! 

  • Qualifications in Counselling, e.g. Psychology, Family Therapy, Counselling Graduate Diploma or other relevant tertiary studies.
  • Experience or capability in working with refugee and asylum seekers and their families within the social services sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering child centered, family focused and relationship counselling within current research-based industry accredited frameworks.
