Trauma Specialist Counsellor
THE ROLE
Are you looking to support the women of Wagga and the region in a role with the Wagga Women’s Health Centre? We are currently looking for two part-time Counsellors.
The Counsellor Trauma Specialist will provide a service that is client-centered, non judgmental, feminist, supportive and responsive.
The Counsellor Trauma Specialist’s core role will be to provide face-to-face, telephone and online counselling, advocate for clients, develop interagency clinical care networks and other supports to people affected by violence, sexual abuse and their supporters.
The role will include:
- Face to face trauma counselling;
- Behaviour change counselling;
- Consultancy counselling;
- Group based support
This position of trust demands the highest levels of professionalism, ethical behaviour and an awareness of multiple factors which will influence individual client’s responses to both the trauma and the counselling provided.
Essential
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related field
- Specialist knowledge and experience counselling and conducting therapeutic support groups
- Sound specialist skills in assessing for and managing trauma appropriately
- Sound understanding and experience in culturally sensitive practice
- Sound knowledge of child protection and effective therapies in supporting victims of sexual assault
- Demonstrated ability to manage the operation of the team and work under limited direction.
- Good knowledge in the use of Microsoft and database programs
