What you’ll be doing

This position will enhance existing services to provide an assertive approach to referrals and consultation due to recent events related to isolation and restrictions in the community for the older population.

The role will undertake assessment, provide evidence based treatment and assertive care to Older Adults. The role will work in collaboration with mental health teams, aged care, General Practice and Primary Health Network services.

The role will provide in reach to Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF) for short term Mental Health treatment and care for older persons experiencing acute severe behavioural disturbance and psychological symptoms by preventing where possible the need for an inpatient admission.

Selection Criteria:

  1. A Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration and with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification. Allied Health Professionals must have current registration with /or eligibility for membership of a relevant peak body professional association.
  2. Demonstrated recent experience working with consumers with psychological/psychiatric illness.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of and experience in the provision of evidence based interventions for mental illness.
  4. Experience in mental health crisis intervention.
  5. Understanding of NSW Mental Health Act (2007).
  6. Proven high level written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated computer literacy.
  7. Evidence of a Class C driver’s licence.
