Wellbeing Case Worker – Kingston Senior Campus YMCA of Queensland

JOB DESCRIPTION

Using YMCA’s Thrive Wellbeing Framework, we support students to increase their social and emotional wellbeing, as well as their drive and ability to participate in a school community, where they feel safe and connected. All students have access to one-on-one counselling onsite and in-class support from experienced youth workers. The wellbeing team facilitates numerous group programs, which support students’ healthy development and growth in body, mind and spirit.

YMCA Wellbeing Services aim to improve young people’s access and engagement with education through developing mental wellbeing. We achieve this through the provision of best practice individualised support pathways, including psychological intervention, counselling and case management support. In addition, we deliver evidence-based wellbeing group programs, both proactive and developmentally focused, that meet the needs of children and young people.

Wellbeing Case Workers operate within The YMCA Vocational School, supporting adolescents who have disengaged from mainstream education. This vacancy is a part time (four days per week), permanent position based at YMCA Vocational School, Kingston Senior Campus.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The role of a Youth Wellbeing Case Worker will include providing individualised assessment and support services to individual students and/or their families, aimed at reducing barriers to education and building positive engagement.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing and delivering preventative and early intervention group programs
  • Developing the capabilities of staff by delivering YMCA’s wellbeing framework Thrive including the creation of resources and training other staff on all wellbeing-related matters
  • Supporting students’ learning by coordinating support and assistance pathways both within the organisation’s multi-disciplinary team, and through external allied health and other community partners
  • Assist in the formulation of Personal Education Plans with teaching staff and resourcing staff with strategies that appropriately combat cognitive, sensory and/or social and emotional challenges

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to The YMCA’s mission, vision and values and will be able to meet the following selection criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, human services, behavioural sciences or equivalent
  • Highly developed skills and experience in working with young people to provide individualised support that enables students to improve their social/emotional, academic and vocational capacities
  • Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based assessment and support for young people experiencing difficulties related to mental health and/or disability
  • Well-developed written communication skills with the ability to provide high quality professional reports and case notes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated capacity to participate positively in a team environment and work across other program areas
  • Computer literacy and prior experience using a range of office software including Word and Excel
  • Current driver’s licence, current Blue Card, a National Criminal History check and first aid qualification or willingness to obtain

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate tertiary qualifications in psychology, counselling or education
  • Membership of the AASW or other professional registering organisation
  • Mental Health accreditation (Social Work)

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS

A salary commensurate with experience and qualifications will be offered to the successful candidate, plus the ability to salary package (up to $15,900pa).
