JOB DESCRIPTION

The Wellbeing Workforce initiative has been established to support Queensland state school students. The additional wellbeing professionals provided through this initiative will ensure every student has access to support for their wellbeing at school.

The Barambah Cluster of schools is seeking a Wellbeing Professional (HP3 or HP4 Psychologist, PO3 or PO4 Social Worker, or Guidance Officer (Wellbeing)) to lead the establishment of these wellbeing services in their schools, and deliver much needed supports to students.

About the role

As a specialist member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will offer therapeutic support to students with mild-to-moderate mental health concerns.

Responsibilities common across all three disciplines include:

  • Assess the mental health needs of students to inform appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • Deliver individual and group interventions to students which address mental health concerns
  • Work collaboratively with schools’ leadership and student support teams to inform student support planning, and provide advice to teachers supporting students’ mental health in the classroom
  • Develop referral and case management processes to support delivery of the service
  • Coordinate referrals to external agencies, and work collaboratively with external networks and stakeholders to ensure access to appropriate supports for students
  • Provide advice and assistance to families to support the mental health of students
  • Support school communities in responding to critical incidents and emergencies as part of the school response team

Candidates from each discipline will be assessed according to these responsibilities, in combination with the respective role description for their discipline (which can be found through the link to apply).

For Senior Psychologists (HP4) and Senior Social Workers (PO4), there will be an opportunity to provide professional supervision and support for a small discipline-specific groups.  These roles will also work with discipline Senior Advisors to grow and support wellbeing services across the Region.

Guidance Officers (Wellbeing) will have a clear focus on delivering wellbeing support and counselling to students.  Other guidance duties, such as verifications and career counselling, will continue to be provided by Guidance Officers within the wider school context.
