Help lead major mental health reform in Victoria to ensure that everyone is supported.

In this role you will be part of the launch of one of the first of 60 Mental Health Locals in Victoria.

This is an amazing opportunity to shape the future of peer and community-led mental health services.

This local support is a key recommendation of the recent Royal Commission into Victoria’s mental health system and promises to make our community a better place to live.

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local

Wellways, Mentis Assist and Peninsula Health are working together to provide mental health and wellbeing supports in Frankston to ensure everyone can access treatment and care closer to home.

The new Frankston Mental Health Local will provide welcoming and inclusive support for people aged 26 years and over who are experiencing mental health challenges, including people with co-occurring alcohol and drug addiction treatment and care needs.

We are working with the local community and people who have a personal experience of mental health issues and recovery to build these services so they are the best they can be. Our services will be led by lived experience and coproduced with the local community so they are the best they can be.

The Frankston Mental Health Local is committed to reconciliation, lived experience and inclusivity. About the role

The Building Community Capacity Team which includes a Promotional Officer, Community Engagement Workers, Volunteer and Community Coordinator, Wellbeing Network Coordinator, AOD Project Coordinator & Carer Peer Workers will engage with community, including hard-to-reach cohorts, to ensure equitable access for all people in the community to Local services.

It will engage with community leaders and a broad range of health, social and community services to co-design community capacity-building initiatives and to identify and respond to psychological distress and to promote ways of maintaining social and emotional wellbeing.

The Wellbeing Network Coordinator, employed by Peninsula Health, will work with relevant services and communities to ensure they can better identify and respond to psychological distress and promote social and emotional wellbeing

About you

• Registered Nurse, Social Worker, OT or Clinical Psychologist with relevant registration. RPN ONLY: Post graduate qualification in Mental Health or specialist undergraduate Mental Health program.
• Eligible for APHRA registration

Requirements

• Community Development principles
• Experience in the human services or related sector, including individual and community development work
• Thorough understanding of mental health recovery and evidence based, best practice supports that enable people to sustain their social and emotional wellbeing enhance their own wellbeing and identity
• Demonstrated knowledge of family and caring roles and the impact on Carers health and wellbeing to determine support requirements
• Demonstrated skill in establishing empowering and supportive partnerships with communities and a broad range of services in the community
• A commitment to maximising the opportunities and support for people within their local communities
• Confident public speaker
