Central Coast Sports College is a progressive Independent K-12 school situated on the NSW Central Coast. We are seeking an SLSO to join our Wellbeing team on a 12 month contract, commencing on 23 January 2024.
This role requires collaboration with inclusive learning staff, students, parents and teachers to meet the individual learning, social & emotional needs of the student. Encouraging students to develop a sense of responsibility towards their own education & wellbeing will be a high priority.
The position requires a person flexible in approach, who is able to work with a range of students and support their individual needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and lead additional Educational & Welfare support services in a variety of areas (including in-class, 1on1 mentoring and social/emotional small groups) for primary and secondary school aged students that will assist student learning and participation in the college.
- Provide assistance of a supportive nature to teachers and coaches including assistance in the implementation of individual support plans.
- Manage a caseload of students needing learning/social/emotional support
- Understand & commit to external referrals that benefit & support students in accessing appropriate targeted services
- Undertake clerical duties as required (documenting student progress and observations, interactions with parents etc.)
- Assist teachers and coaches with the care of students on college excursions, special events and other general college activities.
- Undertake professional learning where required or advised (including whole college training days as well as targeted professional development).
Qualifications and experience
- Industry level Education Support qualification (Certificate III or higher)
- Proven experience in Education Support within schools or relevant contexts with specific experience in providing targeted literacy intervention
- Experience in facilitating & engaging young people in providing Wellbeing support to improve life skills & develop positive relationships
- Familiarity with, or experience in implementing literacy intervention programs is preferred (including Minilit and/or Macqlit)
- Knowledge of and experience working in a school environment including experience working with students with diverse learning, social and emotional needs
- First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake)
- (NSW) Working with Children Check clearance
- National Police check clearance
- Good level of IT competency
- Demonstrated organisational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to participate in Professional Development conducive to mental health, counselling & 1-1 mentoring
