JOB DESCRIPTION

The Centre for Women & Co. exists to deliver responsive, high quality and holistic women’s services to the Logan and Redland Regions, encompassing domestic and family violence support services and women’s health and wellbeing support services.  

The Role   

The Women’s Counsellor is a part of a team providing generalist counselling to women who reside or work in the Logan area. The purpose of this role is to provide evidence-based counselling interventions to women (aged 14 and over) to assist women towards their counselling goals, which often focus on creating a safer, healthier life by working through trauma, abuse, and challenging experiences. The Counsellor will also provide group work or psychoeducation as required and in consultation with the Service Manager. Central to this role is a thorough understanding of therapeutic approaches to counselling and commitment to best practice, and a willingness to change and develop as the service evolves to meet community needs.

About You   

You will possess an exceptional understanding and firm base of trauma-informed practice using a strength-based women-centred approach, including holistic therapeutic approaches.   

You will be a confident, collaborative and intrinsically motivated practitioner who is able to work effectively in the Logan City region. You will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to communicate with a broad range of people. You will possess highly acute administration and time management skills necessary to maintain clear, concise, accurate client case notes and record keeping.   

Selection Criteria – (please address each in your application)   

Qualifications and experience (mandatory):  

  • Tertiary qualifications in Counselling, Behavioural Science, Social Science, Social Work or Psychology from a recognised university, with eligibility for professional association membership with at least two years post qualification experience in the provision of counselling or similar.  
  • Demonstrated understanding of counselling knowledge and skills, including trauma-informed practice and the ability to articulate the primary modalities of your counselling practice.   
  • Describe the way in which you have recently worked with a client who has presented with complex trauma.   
  • Describe your understanding of reflective practice and how you manage transference and countertransference, and vicarious trauma.    
  • Evidence of excellent communication, both verbal and written skills, to develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and the ability to write clear case notes and reports via systems.
