Classification: Social, Community, Homecare & Disability Services Industrial Award 2010  

Remuneration: SCHADS Award – Level 5

Working Hours: 0.8 FTE subject to funding 

Reports to: Women Wellbeing Team Leader

ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT 

Women’s Health and Equality Queensland Ltd (WHEQ) is a not-for-profit health and well-being counselling and groups, promotion, information and education service for women and their families, and health professionals throughout Queensland. 

WHEQ service delivery is guided by a strategic and operational plan.  We work with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.  We acknowledge that not everyone who may seek our services may identify as female.  We are a pro-choice organisation that applies an intersectional feminist lens to our work. 

The organisation is led by a Board who works in partnership with the staff to ensure that WHEQ functions as an effective and dynamic organisation. 

ABOUT THE JOB 

This position provides specialist domestic, family, and sexual violence education and therapeutic groups and case management where required. The position provides the development, facilitation, delivery, evaluation and reporting of services designed to support women’s recovery from experiences of gendered violence through promoting wellbeing, social connectedness, financial independence and increased personal power. The position will be based at WHEQ’s Stones Corner centre and while also delivering groups from external locations in the Brisbane region. This position will require identification, engagement and relationship development with external stakeholders.  

The position supports WHEQ to meet its strategic objectives, including increasing service access for marginalised groups. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

You will be accountable for working independently and in collaboration with other staff to:   

  • Develop, plan, coordinate, facilitate and evaluate therapeutic, psychoeducation and support groups on a range of topics aimed to support women’s recovery from experiences of gendered violence. 
  • Establish the most appropriate operational methods for the delivery of groups 
  • Prepare program budgets, monitor expenditure, reconcile and report on budgets. 
  • Provide, where required, client-centred trauma-informed case management services to WHEQ clients, through face-to-face, telephone and web-based delivery modalities to people who have experienced domestic, family, sexual and other forms of gendered violence. 
  • Provide appropriate referral services to WHEQ clients if another organisation can better meet the client’s needs. 
  • Assess clients’ health needs to ensure appropriate support is provided to clients. 
  • Identify and foster beneficial partnerships to enhance, deliver and extend the services WHEQ offer.  
  • Ensure currency of knowledge regarding best-practice principles. 
  • Adherence to best-practice counselling, case management, group delivery, health promotion and education frameworks. 
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports.  
  • Provide and assist with establishing organisation programs and procedures.  
  • Contribute to grant writing and opportunities to expand WHEQ services.
  • Provide expert advice and supervision to employees classified at a lower level and volunteers.  
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation, and revision for continuous quality improvement of WHEQ service delivery projects and programs providing women’s health information, education, and building client capacity and self-resilience. 
  • Escalate identified issues and clinical risks through formal organisational channels. 
  • Work under general direction from senior employees. 
  • Priorities, plan and organise your own work.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Ability to prioritise time and manage allocated workload. 
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including strong knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.  
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills including the alibility to communicate effectively with a diverse range of cultural and social groups. 
  • Experience in initiating and managing productive relationships with partner organisations and other stakeholders.  
  • Ability to actively understand, communicate and support WHEQ’s vision and strategic goals, and communicate that to stakeholders, internally and externally. 
  • Uphold high levels of confidentiality and integrity, liaising with others in a professional, respectful and constructive manner. 
  • An analytical and innovative thinker with a problem-solving attitude.
  • Current Working with Children Check, Police Check or similar, or preparedness to obtain.

ABOUT YOU  

  • A relevant Bachelor or post graduate degree in Counselling\ Social work\ Psychology and eligibility for registration Australian Association of Social workers (AASW) &/or with APHRA. 
  •  2 years minimum experience in your professional discipline with extensive experiencing supporting women who have experienced gendered violence.  
  • Current Blue Card. 
  • Evidence of recent case management, group facilitation, group planning and development or clinical experience working within a community health and or social services setting engaging with vulnerable client groups, including trauma-informed care. 
  • High level skills in assessment, case planning and management, and working in partnership with families and local service networks.  
  • Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the DFV service systems including government and non-government organisations. 
  • In depth understanding of the highly developed gendered analysis of women’s health issues and the effects of domestic and family violence and/or sexual violence. 
  • Experience and demonstrated understanding of issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with diverse genders, people with disabilities and other vulnerable and or disadvantaged groups within the context of health and wellbeing.  
  • Understanding or ability to acquire knowledge swiftly of federal and state-based legislation including domestic and family violence, sexual violence, and child protection legislation relevant to service delivery. 
  • An ability and commitment to creating a positive work environment and strong organisational culture while contributing to the development and achievement of the goals and visions of the organisation. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

This Position Description provides the minimum requirements for the role. Extra duties may be required as requested by your direct line manager.   

Women’s Health and Equality Queensland Women’s Centre is located in Stones Corner. This position may require you to work on some days at varying locations in Brisbane as part of a co-location model.
