Working Hours: 2 positions available Part-time 2 – 4 days per week

ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Women’s Health and Equality Queensland (WHEQ) are leaders in advancing women’s health, gender equality and the primary prevention of violence. Founded over 40 years ago, we are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting women, improving their healthcare, and advocating for gender equality. We have a centre in Stones Corner which provides a range of services to support women affected by gender-based violence including counselling, case management and groups.

WHEQ service delivery is guided by a strategic and operational plan.  We work with a diverse range of participants and stakeholders. We acknowledge that not everyone who may seek our services may identify as female. We are a pro-choice organisation that applies an intersectional feminist lens to our work.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position provides specialist domestic, family, and sexual violence counselling supporting women’s recovery and healing from experiences of gendered violence. Therapeutic counselling is the main function of this role though additionally, this role may also include the facilitation of therapeutic and educational groups. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.  You will be accountable for:

Working independently and in collaboration with other staff to:  

  • Provide client-centred trauma informed counselling and case management services to WHEQ clients, through face-to-face, telephone and web-based delivery modalities. This will be focussed on people who have experienced domestic, family, sexual and other forms of gendered violence.
  • Assess clients’ health and wellbeing needs to ensure appropriate counselling and support is provided to clients, including developing, monitoring and assessing individualised care plans.
  • Provide appropriate referral services to WHEQ clients if another organisation can better meet the client’s needs.
  • Undertake risk assessments, and when needed escalate identified issues and clinical risks through formal organisational channels.
  • Contribute to development, planning, and delivery of therapeutic, psychoeducation and community development group work. 
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of professional education.
  • Ensure currency of knowledge regarding best-practice principles. 
  • Adherence to best-practice counselling, health promotion and education frameworks.
  • Identify and foster beneficial relationships with appropriate identified partners and groups to enhance, deliver and extend the services WHEQ offer.
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation, and revision for continuous quality improvement of WHEQ service delivery projects and programs providing women’s health information, education, and building client capacity and self-resilience.
  • Prepare accurate and timely information for external reporting purposes (as relevant to your position). 

ABOUT YOU 

  • A relevant Bachelor or post graduate degree in Counselling\ Social work\ Psychology and registration with the associated professional body. 
  • At least 2 years’ experience in your professional discipline supporting vulnerable client groups and women who have experienced gender-based violence. 
  • Current Blue Card or ability to attain one.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the DFV service systems and legislation.
  • Understanding and gendered analysis of the effects of domestic, family and sexual violence.
  • Experience and demonstrated understanding of issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, and other priority groups within the context of health and family wellbeing. 
  • An ability and commitment to creating a positive work environment and organisational culture

This Position Description provides the minimum requirements for the role. Extra duties may be required as requested by your direct line manager. 

Women’s Health and Equality Queensland is located in Stones Corner. This position may require you to work on some days at varying locations in Brisbane as part of a co-location model.
