Women’s Wellbeing Program Worker

30.4hrs per week (4 days)

Applications are sought for the position of a Women’s Wellbeing Program worker on a part time basis. The position is a 12 month contract with possibility of ongoing subject to funding, this role is 30.4 hours per week worked over 4 days based at our Maroochydore office.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a range of trauma informed services including community engagement, group work, counselling and advocacy for women and young women who have experienced gender-based violence.   The program operates within an empowerment model and is aimed at assisting women to achieve their goals for social and economic independence and to achieve a greater sense of well-being following their experience of gender based violence..

About the role:

  • Provide trauma informed services including group work, community education, counselling and advocacy to survivors of gender-based violence. 
  • Conduct initial assessments, provide information, referral, and support women both in a face to face setting, and remote (telephone, videoconference) when required. 
  • Carry out risk assessments and safety planning within a women’s wellbeing context. (Please note – the Women’s Space is not a crisis domestic violence service). 
  • Provide case management, advocacy, psycho-education and resource coordination for women and young women to achieve their goals. 
  • Develop and deliver a range of group programs including therapeutic groups, peer support groups, psycho-education sessions and collaborative workshops. 
  • Identify and work with key stakeholders within the community, attend stakeholder and inter-agency network meetings to ensure best practice and outcomes for clients accessing the Women’s Space. 
  •  Ensure the maintenance of client confidentiality including confidential records;
  • Participate in training, case planning and supervision sessions for service staff; and,
  • To perform work in accordance with the vision statement, mission, and values of Laurel Place Inc. including Standards of Practice and Policies and Procedures.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in the social/behavioural sciences.   Experience working in a related field. 
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the issues pertaining to young women and women affected by gender-based violence. 
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and understand of working within a trauma informed and recovery orientated framework.  
  4. Demonstrated assessment and crisis intervention experience working with young women and women, who have experienced gender-based violence including awareness of referral pathways. 
  5. Well-developed skills in group work, community engagement and advocacy; developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships within the community. 
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and respond to the needs of people from diverse backgrounds including; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and those women from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds; Women who have a disability.
  7. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, in particular well-developed skills in relating and responding to clients and others contacting the service. 
  8. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
