About us

headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. We are creating a multidisciplinary team at headspace Shellharbour and Kiama work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people.

Grand Pacific Health is a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation and is the lead agency of both headspace centres. We provide locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services from 25 locations across NSW and the ACT.  
 
About the position

If you are passionate about Youth Mental Health and want to make a positive difference to the lives of young people and their families, we would love for you to join our headspace team as a Youth Access Worker. 

The Youth Access Worker provides a welcoming first point of contact for young people and their family seeking support from headspace Shellharbour & Kiama. 

The position will undertake assessments and triage appropriate referrals. In conjunction with the headspace team, the Youth Access Clinician will coordinate the transition to appropriate support and treatment streams within and external to headspace as well as provide short term counselling interventions.

We have both full time and part time opportunities available in our Shellharbour office, and a part time (22.5 hours per week) position in our Kiama office. We can be flexible on preferred hours and days, as well as working from one or two offices. These positions are fixed-term, to 30 June 2025 with likelihood of extension.

The positions will initially be based in our GPH hubs in Wollongong until the headspace Shellharbour and Kiama offices are established in early 2024.

We are looking for someone with:

  1. Qualifications or working towards same, in a relevant field including youth work, community welfare, social work, psychology, peer work, occupational therapy, counselling or other related qualifications or demonstrated experience in a similar role
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people, and a passion for providing support to them. 
  3. Experience in providing counselling services to young people and their families.
