About headspace and RAV:

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers core areas including mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.

Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is the lead agency for headspace Wonthaggi, which is governed by a consortium of local community organisations who provide expertise, support and advice to RAV. About the role:

Reporting to the Centre Manager headspace Wonthaggi, you will be able to apply your skills and experience in this position to effectively engage, screen, assess, refer, provide brief interventions and to coordinate care for young people aged 12-25 years that are referred to the headspace centre. As the Youth Access Worker, you will be welcomed into a multi-disciplinary team that includes general practitioners, allied health clinicians, community engagement workers, and support staff.

This role is available at our headspace centre in Wonthaggi on a part-time basis, four (4) days per week, until 30 June 2023 with a possibility of extension pending funding review and contractual obligations. 

Qualifications and Registrations: 

  • Tertiary level qualifications in health, behavioural/social sciences, community services, or a related discipline.
  • Current full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or current full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) is desirable.

Experience:

  • Ability and experience to undertake intake and screening activities to determine client needs, and to assist clients to access appropriate services.
  • Ability and experience to conduct risk assessments, including suicide and violence risks, and to develop action plans that mitigate these risks.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health, including related evidence-based interventions and clinical practice.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of people, the ability to engage with young people and advocate on their behalf.

A competitive sector remuneration package is on offer to the successful candidate with a base salary of $88,000 (pro-rata) per annum, plus superannuation and access to PBI tax-free salary packaging.
