JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Full-time ongoing position 
  • Based out of our Nunawading office + outreach + option to work from another office  
  • $47 – $50.5 per hour + 11% Super + Generous Salary Packaging benefits of up to $18,550

The Youth and Family team provide services that are free with funding coming through Federal, State and Local Governments. Our staff aim to help young people improve their connections with health, family, and community as well as self, inclusive of education and employment.
 

What you’ll be doing 

As Youth and Family Counsellor you will focus on the mental health and family needs of children and young people in the Eastern Region of Melbourne.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing appropriate interventions for young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness and/or deteriorating family relationships.
  • The work includes the provision of focussed psychological and social strategies through individual counselling, family counselling or therapeutic groupwork.
  • Assisting in the development and application of appropriate assessments, intakes, and evaluation processes.
  • Building and maintaining productive and co-operative links with relevant agencies, peers, organisations, and stakeholders.
  • The position will be based in Nunawading, with the opportunity for both office-based and outreach-based appointments as required.

 

Qualifications

In addition to a self-directed passion and drive to support young people and their families, you’ll have:

  • Extensive experience working with youth facing mental health challenges, the impacts of trauma, homelessness, early school departure and family conflict.
  • Understanding of issues involved in adolescent and/or childhood development. As well as challenges faced by this group.
  • Knowledge of services, processes and networks available for young people in the area.
  • Understanding of the social model of health and mental health recovery principles and processes.
  • An applied understanding and sensitivity to the needs of people from marginalized communities as well as Aboriginal communities.

Mandatory Qualification/s, Competencies and/or Licences

  • Minimum tertiary qualification in either Social Work, Counselling, Youth Work.
  • Current Driver’s License.
