Youth Counselling and Support Services Counsellor

  • Ideal position for someone with graduate qualifications in mental health and experience delivering mental health interventions.  
  • Full time, Limited tenure to 30 Aug 2024, with monthly RDO
  • Salary $94,184 – $102,660 (dependant on experience), + plus Super

A bit about the role

This role sits in the Youth Counselling and Support Services team as part of Child, Youth & Family Engagement. Youth counsellors deliver both face to face and telehealth appointments to young people aged 10-25 from a range of locations across the municipality as well as at the home office under flexible work arrangements.

The Youth Counsellor will provide therapeutic counselling, parent/carer support and referral pathways for Casey’s young people and their families utilising the following specialist skills and knowledge:  

In this role you will demonstrate

  • Skills in assessment, counselling, individual support and group work.
  • Ability to network and liaise with a range of people and organisations.
  • Ability to solve problems, think laterally, research and apply information.
  • Understanding of contemporary youth and family issues, including knowledge of the youth services sector, relevant policy & best practice.
  • Understanding of child and youth development principles, and the developmental stages of young people.
  • Ability to adhere to relevant legislation and regulations, including case noting and record keeping.
  • Proficiency in the application of a theoretical or scientific discipline, including the underlying principles as distinct from the practices.
  • Ability to use the available digital tools to a high level
  • Ability to deliver quality services from multiple sites including an outreach component, managing time and resources with a high degree of efficiency and autonomy.

What you will bring

  • Graduate qualified professionals in either Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health Social Work or related discipline:
  • At least 3 years mental health experience post qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of counselling, case formulation and interventions across a range of mental health conditions and presentations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based therapeutic approaches relevant to young people and their families, including young people from diverse groups.
  • Sound knowledge in the identification and assessment of potential risk of harm to a young person and the development of comprehensive safety plans
