This is a fantastic opportunity to join an organisation dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and to assist in the management of Mental Health in the community. Reporting into the Program Manager headspace & Adolescent Services, the Youth Counsellor role will work within a multidisciplinary team environment to provide counselling and therapeutic interventions to young people aged 12-25. This will include providing direct evidence-based intervention, keeping up date documentation, contributing to clinical and team meetings, working with families and carers, engaging in regular clinical supervision and providing support at events and other team activities.
What will you be doing day to day
- Develop strong working relationships with young people, family and friends and local services.
- Carry out assessments, case planning, therapeutic and/or psychoeducational brief interventions and care coordination for young people and their families.
- The opportunity to develop and co-facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic group programs.
- Support young people to access the services they need through consultation and liaison with internal and external service providers according to documented care plans.
- The opportunity to develop and/or participate in community and youth engagement events, activities and promotions.
- Exercise initiative and judgement, under guidance from the headspace Clinical Lead, to proactively improve the experience of young people and service offerings.
You will finish each day knowing that you have made a genuine, positive difference to the children and young people within the program.
ABOUT YOU
To thrive in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in providing trauma-informed, culturally safe therapeutic approaches and a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or a related discipline.
You will be a flexible individual who is passionate about working with children and young people. Most importantly, you will have a warm and engaging demeanour that makes clients feel comfortable and listened to.
