headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Goulburn & Yass work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people.
 
Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Goulburn & Yass.  We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services across NSW and the ACT.

About the position
 
The Youth Counsellor will operate out of our headspace Goulburn & Yass services and will work collaboratively with a young person and their family/carers to assess the mental health and psycho-social support needs of the young people referred to headspace.
 
You will coordinate transition to appropriate support and treatment streams within and external to headspace in accordance with the clinical need. 
 
The position will work closely with the other members of the headspace Goulburn & Yass team and external service providers to coordinate support needs. 
 
This a is part-time (3 days per week – days negotiable), fixed term opportunity until 30 June 2023 with the possibility for extension.

What you’ll need
 
  1. Qualifications in Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Counselling, Psychology, or other relevant field as well as eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional organisation/authority as required
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems.
  3. Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment and screening of clients and their carers to determine client care needs and assist clients to access necessary services
  4. Experience working within a multidisciplinary team environment, providing counselling in response to the needs of young people.
