What you will be doing:  

We are seeking for a driven and passionate Youth Drug and Alcohol Clinician. The role is part of our Drug and Alcohol Adolescent Service based in our Nepean Campus in Kingswood. The position will work within a multidisciplinary and multi-agency approach liaising with key stakeholders both internal to the Drug & Alcohol Service and NBMLHD, and externally with key government and non-government partners including Department of Human Services, Department of Education, General Practitioners, Department of Justice and Drug & Alcohol residential treatment providers.

The Youth Drug & Alcohol Clinician will provide direct frontline services to young people and the youth sector. The core functions of this position are:

  • Provide counselling and case management for young people with drug & alcohol issues, as informed by their professional discipline
  • Facilitate the development of case management plans in consultation with all relevant parties including addiction medicine specialists and best practice models.
  • Provide referral for young people with drug & alcohol issues to appropriate support services and group work programs.
  • Help develop and facilitate group work programs as required (in conjunction with other services).
  • Provide support for other staff (mainstream drug & alcohol, Youth Sector etc.) in relation to youth drug and alcohol issues.
  • Support education and health improvements initiatives for young people experiencing drug and alcohol issues and develop links and partnerships both internal and external to the Local Health District

Selection Criteria to be Addressed:

  1. A recognised qualifications in Social Work (Level 1 or Level 2), Counselling(Level 1 or Level 2) or equivalent as deemed by the health service and eligibility for membership with relevant professional organisation such as membership of AASW.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the issues and difficulties faced by young people presenting with Drug and Alcohol problems and previous clinical experience working in a counselling environment.
  3. Demonstrated experience in providing evidence-based assessment, psychosocial interventions, case management and individual/ group counselling interventions for young people with drug and alcohol problems.
  4. Demonstrated partnership building and negotiation skills with a wide range of service providers and well developed understanding of the interface between services.
  5. Evidence of an advanced level of verbal/written communication skills, analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to apply these skills within a Youth Drug and Alcohol Service setting
  6. Demonstrated advanced reasoning skills with proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a medically led multidisciplinary team.
  7. Experience in, or commitment to, working with individuals and families from Aboriginal backgrounds and/or diverse cultural backgrounds.
  8. Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
