Youth Engagement Officer – Alcohol and other Drugs Counsellor 

  • Full-time contract until August 2024
  • Location: Newcastle and fortnightly outreach appointments to Cessnock and Maitland
  • This role is paid under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award 2010- Level 5 $47.50 – $49.65

 

About the opportunity: 

As a Youth Engagement officer your primary responsibility is to offer person-centered therapeutic support and employ a strengths-based, collaborative approach to assist young individuals in addressing the adverse effects of their alcohol or other drugs use. This role involves supporting the development and delivery of evidence-based therapeutic interventions to promote positive behavioural changes, resilience, strengthen family relationships and healthier lifestyles among youth.

Essential Criteria:

  •  Degree Qualification in Psychology, Counselling, Family Therapy, Social Work or equivalent
  • Ability to demonstrate a broad theoretical approach to counselling
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of substance misuse and the impact this has on individuals and family members
  • A strong commitment to work with young people from an early intervention perspective to address substance misuse
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and counselling skills
  • Demonstrated experience in counselling, child informed practice and knowledge of domestic violence, crisis intervention
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering therapeutic group work and educational programs
  • Knowledge of mental health and AOD services in the Hunter

Desirable:

  • 5 years’ experience working professionally as a counsellor
  • Current registration with a relevant professional association

The successful applicant will possess or willingness to obtain the following: NSW Working with Children Check, Criminal history check, Drivers Licence, first aid & CPR certificate and undertake a pre-employment functional medical.
