About the role
The youth Justice Mental Health Clinician (YJMHI) provides services to children and young people under community-based supervision of Youth Justice. This includes: young people 10-18 years of age & young adults up to 24 years of age who are serving their sentence in Youth Justice’s ‘dual track’ system.
- Provide primary and secondary consultation to Community Youth Justice when a mental health condition is identified or suspected.
- Provide brief intervention and facilitate referral to the appropriate mental health services as necessary.
- Support Youth Justice case managers to manage young people with mental illness
- The role includes case management, advocacy and liaison (depending on the young person’s needs and capacity of the YJMHI clinician).
