Mission Australia Transition to Work Program

Mission Australia’s Transition to Work provides no cost employment services to help employers recruit young employees, while supporting them to enter the workforce. This successful program is life changing, helping young people aged between 15 to 24 transition to work or ongoing education. The program has a strong focus on providing support to those who have left school early, or who are having difficulty finding work after school, and helping them to develop the skills and confidence they need to move into work or ongoing education.

Your Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Mentor for our Nerang or Palm Beach offices, to act as the point of contact for our youth programs. In your role, you will provide a mix of 1 to 1 and group support aimed at strengthening the social & emotional wellbeing of your clients. Our mentors are active in the community and work collaboratively with local schools, partnering with local community service providers and also our Youth Employment Specialists in the areas of education, training & employment.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Promote early engagement and sustained connection of youth via outreach, drop-in and non structured interactions.
  • Connect with local youth services to promote the benefits of the Program and facilitate Workshops and coaching sessions
  • Ensure young people are provided with practical support to participate and feel valued and worthy of contributing to their futures.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate group work sessions and provide tailored support to clients.
  • Accurately record information in management files for all clients in line with Mission Australia protocols and program.
  • Proactively raise concerns that affect the safety and wellbeing of children and young people engaging with MA services.
  • Actively provide continuous improvement initiatives to ensure the quality of the program evolves.

We encourage applications from people with disability and Indigenous Australians.

Requirements for Success:

  • Tertiary qualifications in community services or a related field.
  • Experience with Youth Services, career counselling or social & emotional wellbeing support.
  • Detail oriented written skill and the ability to present information and comprehensive case notes clearly and concisely.
  • A proven track record in achieving KPI’s; demonstrating resilience and managing your self-awareness and personal development.
  • Experience working with vulnerable people and/or young people with complex needs.
  • Resilience, self-awareness and the ability to manage your own personal development and wellness.

Please include a cover letter outlining why you are passionate about supporting young people.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people and and have (or create) a myGovID account.
