Youth Program Officer – ‘Gippsland East Youth Project’

  • Part Time (4 days) ongoing employment
  • Hours generally between 12pm – 8pm over 4 weekdays
  • SCHADS Level 3 ($36 – $38.60 p/h) + 17.5% leave loading and 11% superannuation 
  • Professional Development – compliment your experience with the potential for qualification, internal training and cross region development opportunities
  • No specific or minimum qualifications needed, for those with youth / social work or community services experience. Confidence engaging with youth a must.

In an exciting new opportunity for East Gippsland, we are searching for a skilled Youth Program Officer to join our team in the delivery of meaningful and rewarding programs and activities for young people in the region.

This unique role would be ideal for a parent looking for flexibility or an early career professional looking for a great progression opportunity. With a base available in Lakes Entrance (where our Program Bus is located) this role will have both a fixed address and structured program responsibilities, but also allow for remote working outside of these activities, van/transport support, and professional development as part of our wider Gippsland team.

What does the Program Officer do?

4 days a week you’ll be trusted to deliver a range of activities, events, and programs in partnership with East Gippsland youth and partner organisations. From an afternoon BBQ, to an overnight camp, there will be a wide range of opportunities to enable, empower and mentor young people. 

You’ll be supported by a fantastic team of like minded and passionate people across Gippsland, and provided opportunities for professional training and personal growth. You’ll be invited to participate in occasional meetings elsewhere in Gippsland, but benefit from an East Gippsland focus and work base, networks and relationships with local youth and organisations.

The successful applicants will work in a flexible and mobile capacity meaning, you will be out and about on our fully equipped buses going into communities or heading directly into local schools running a range of programs. You will be equipped with a work computer allowing you to work remotely and from home when necessary and will meet at locations in either Bairnsdale, Sale or Morwell when in training.

  • Bus is located at Lakes Entrance for the start and end of shift, with remote working outside of program activities
  • Occasional overnight rostered opportunities – loadings and allowances applicable

What is the Gippsland East Youth Program?

Gippsland East Youth Project (GEYP) is a Youth led, Adult guided project. It is all about taking skilled youth workers out to the communities of East Gippsland that have been harshly impacted by Bushfires and Covid over the past few years. We’re on a mission to help the young people of these regions build their capacity and connection to the community they live. We will provide opportunities for youth to learn new skills, build relationships and connect with professional services in places where many can slip through the cracks.

Required skills and experience

Qualifications / Training:

  • No specific or minimum qualifications needed, for those with youth / social work or community services experience. Confidence engaging with youth a must.
  • First Aid Level II and CPR (or willingness to obtain)
  • Victorian Drivers License
  • Light Rigid License (license to drive vehicles which seat more than 12 people including driver).- or willingness to obtain
  • Anaphylaxis and Asthma qualification (or willingness to obtain)

Employment Checks – we can assist you through our process if you do not hold these:

  • Victorian Working with Children Check
  • Victorian Crimcheck / National Police or Name Check (obtained prior to employment)
  • Evidence of up to date COVID Vaccinations

Experience: 

  • Prior roles working with Young People – Coaching sport, community group involvement – we are open to varied experiences
  • Project Management skills, organisational and communication skills
  • Experienced with social media / marketing desired
