Youth Reconciliation Practitioner (Counsellor)

Hope Street Youth and Family Services Limited (“Hope Street”) is a leading specialist youth homelessness services in Victoria with over 40 years’ experience in delivering services to young people and young families in the western and northern growth corridors of Melbourne.

The Youth Reconciliation program offers one-to-one counselling and support so that young people can establish and maintain constructive relationships with family and broader support networks.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Youth Counsellor/Psychologist with sound experience in providing counselling and reconciliation services to young people and their families. In this role you will utilise a solution focused, strengths-based approach to provide short-term counselling and support services (maximum three months) to Hope Street’s clients. In addition, you will have the opportunity to facilitate a range of workshops and presentations with young people as well as conduct presentations for staff for capacity building.

ABOUT YOU

  • You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree of a Social Work, Youth Work, or relevant Social Science related qualification
  • You have at least 2 years of experience as Youth Reconciliation worker (Counsellor or Psychologist)
  • You have a sound understanding of youth homelessness and pride on your ability to build relationship quickly with your client group 
  • You greatly enjoy strengthening the capacity for young people to live interdependently and supporting a young person to achieve the maximum degree of self-reliance, stability and self-determination.
  • You are highly competent using the full suite of Microsoft applications
  • You are able to maintain accurate confidential administrative records and progress notes
