The Position

St John of God Social Outreach provides a range of no or low-​cost mental health, homelessness and capacity building services to over 5500 people in the community across Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales and the Asia Pacific, particularly in areas where we have identified gaps in service provision. ​

Horizon House Program provides support for young people aged 16-22 years who are in need of long-term accommodation and support to enable them to access education, training and employment opportunities. Our focus is on giving them the stability, life-skills and support they need to achieve their individual goals and ultimately, make the transition to independent living.

Multiple positions are available for enthusiastic Youth Residential Carers to join our Horizon House team in Broome WA on a permanent part-time basis, working 22 hours per week. 

Youth Residential Carers work in a residential care setting alongside the Support Coordinators, to provide intensive support for young people 16-22 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Youth Caregivers provide advocacy & support to residents, as well as coordinating, developing and implementing Independent Life Skills Programmes, in order to meet the individualised needs of the residents throughout their stay at Horizon House.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work or similar.
  • Extensive experience in an area related to youth work and/or case management.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of the special needs of adolescents and trauma-informed care together with at least five years recent relevant experience working with at-risk young people is essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Privacy Legislation and Occupational, Health & Safety Act Regulations.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Adhere to pre-employment immunisation policy and possession of a current:
    • Unrestricted State Driver’s License
    • First Aid Certificate
    • State Working with Children Card
    • Commitment to and participation in ongoing development on skills and knowledge in working within a therapeutic service model.
