YOUTH SUPPORT WORKERS – Autism Support Specialists
We currently have two roles available for immediate start:
- Experienced Support Worker/Youth Worker (Education supports)
- Support Worker/Mentor (specifically to support teenage boys)
Job Description:
We are seeking 2 x dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Workers – Autism Support Specialists to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with autistic teenagers, providing support, guidance, and mentorship to help them navigate the challenges they face and develop essential life skills. Your role will be critical in promoting independence, social inclusion, and self-esteem among our young participants.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualised support plans for autistic teenagers.
- Provide one-on-one and group support to promote social interaction and skill development.
- Assist participants in building self-confidence, self-advocacy, and independence.
- Offer emotional support and be a positive role model.
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, and professionals to ensure a holistic approach to support.
- Plan and facilitate recreational and educational activities tailored to the needs and interests of the participants.
- Monitor and track progress and provide regular updates to the team and families.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and accepting environment for all participants.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with autistic teenagers.
- Understanding of autism spectrum disorders and familiarity with best practices in autism support.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of young people.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license and access to transportation for off-site activities.
- Current Working with Children and NDIS Worker Screening cards.
